Saturday 10:00-11:00am

Mark James and the Manitou Springs Heritage Center present a Virtual Program, “Edwin James-First to Summit Pikes Peak Bicentennial”

Mr. James is a Colorado photographer who has a good story about his ancestor, Edwin James. To the general public, Edwin is an obscure figure of early American Western history. To historians and scientists, he is well known as a botanist, physician, and the first explorer to scale Pikes Peak as a member of the Long Expedition in 1820. He was also an outspoken advocate on behalf of the environment, the Indian, temperance, and ultimately as an abolitionist with his homestead in Burlington, Iowa as a station along the Underground Railroad. Join us to learn Mr. James’ story as he retraces his famous ancestor’s journey throughout the American West.
