Pikes Peak Marathon 70th Anniversary

Known as “America’s Ultimate Challenge” the Pikes Peak Marathon is a race like no other. With a 7,800-foot vertical climb, the course takes runners from Manitou Springs, Colorado, along Barr Trail to the summit of Pikes Peak at 14,115 feet —and back— for a total of 26.2 grueling mountain miles. For seven decades, dedicated runners have competed in this Ultimate Challenge, meaning that September 2025 marks the 70th anniversary of the Pikes Peak Marathon. In partnership with the Pikes Pike Marathon & Ascent organization, the Manitou Springs Heritage Museum is hosting “Pikes Peak Marathon 70th Anniversary,” an informative exhibit that will provide historical highlights of each decade as the race evolved and will feature some legendary runners throughout the years. Music Monday: Jazz at the Armadillo Ranch

All-ages Jazz Jam hosted by Saxophonist Adam Gang Brett Darby Price is a percussionist/drummer, guitarist and composer from Colorado Springs who has been playing in Colorado since 2006. Brett plays along Colorado's Front Range and Gunnsion Valley where he performs regularly with the Gypsy Jazz Social Club on drums. Brett creates intricate live loops in various styles including bossa-nova, samba, funk, jazz, blues and reggae. Special guest Drummer / Percussionist Henrique de Almeida is a Berklee College of Music Professor and is the Drum-set Coach. Henrique’s composition projects include work for HBO, Victoria Secret and others. He has performed several times at Carnegie Hall, and with numerous artists including Bill Summers (Headhunters), Dave Ellefson (Megadeath), Victor Wooten, Gloria Estefan and others. The Armadillo Ranch and Tidal Breeze Jazz Arts present Jazz every Monday! Enjoy the combination of wonderful jazz and a wonderful menu. (This is NOT an open-mic, please come prepared). Colin McAllister is an Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. His performances as a guitarist and conductor have been hailed as “sparkling….delivered superbly” (San Francisco Chronicle), “ravishing” (San Diego Union Tribune), and “an amazing tour de force” (San Diego Story).
