The Women’s Freedom Museum is a distributed museum and public art exhibition – not in a single building, but unfolding across Manitou Springs through instillations in parks, storefront’s and shared spaces where people live their lives.
There are simply too many women to honor, and not enough space in traditional history to hold them. Each exhibit is a work of art by a local artist – a deliberate act of remembrance for a women whose story shaped history.
Launching this fall, the first 20 installations create a walkable experience through Manitou Springs. The town itself becomes the Museum. Additional tributes will be added over time through partnerships with local businesses, artists and neighborhoods. Because this project is not only building exhibitions. It is reimagining what a history museum can be.
