The Outpost was originally built in the 1800’s as a stock stable. After it burned down, the Outpost became the Navajo Geyser Pavilion Cafeteria in 1913. The Cafeteria boasted its superior food, quick service, and no tips were necessary. The Navajo Geyser inside the Pavilion was one of the main attractions at the Cafeteria. Every 35 to 45 minutes the Navajo Geyser would shoot out into the air.
Eventually, the Hiawatha Tours and Navajo Garage took over the Cafeteria. The Garage offered mechanic work and gas. They also took visitors on tours to Pikes Peak, the Royal Gorge, Cripple Creek, and through Phantom Canyon. In 1951, the Barker Manufacturing Company bought the Garage and it became a leather goods store that also featured western apparel. It wasn’t until 2003 that the leather store became the Manitou Outpost you can visit today.
The Manitou Outpost is open seven days a week all year long! We are closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. We are a pet friendly store.
