The Great Fruitcake Toss
Join local Manitoids on January 26th to enjoy this old-fashioned event of flying those leftover fruitcakes!
In Memorial Park from 1:00pm – 3:00pm! No registration needed to participate in regular competitions. Exhibition teams, please register upon arrival.
Fruitcake will be available for rent ($1) for those of you who like fruitcake or who weren’t lucky enough to receive any for Christmas. Bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Manitou Springs Food Pantry for a free fruitcake rental (10 max tickets per family)
Local bakers will compete for the title of Fruitcake King or Queen and our panel of fruitcake judges will determine who makes the best organic, non-GMO, or natural wonderfully delicious fruitcake at our Fruitcake Bake-Off! Bring your homemade fruitcake to the Bake-Off table at the event to be entered into the baking contests. EVERY BAKING CONTESTANT WILL RECEIVE A $10 SHAMROCK FOODSERVICE WAREHOUSE GIFT CERTIFICATE to use when they open in February. WINNER RECEIVES $100 GIFT CARD & a 2LB Deluxe Collin Street Bakery Fruitcake! *Your fruitcake MUST contain fruit, nuts, & flour*
It all started in 1996 with locals throwing fruitcakes in the park, and more than 20 years later, we are going old school! Events will feature feats of strength, accuracy, distance and talent (and balance and taste!) *NEW IN 2019! FRUITCAKE CORNHOLE!
Competitor who wins in most categories (distance, speed, accuracy, balance) will be crowed Fruitcake Queen or King.
10 and Under
18-59 *Winners for each competition in this age range will win a 2LB Deluxe Collin Street Bakery Fruitcake!
60+ (you will not be ID’d!)
Fruitcakes that are brought from home must adhere to the following to be considered for competition:
• Fruitcakes must contain glaceed fruits, nuts and flour.
• Fruitcakes may not contain anything inedible. Fruitcakes will not be “taste tested”.
• Fruitcakes must be visible to the inspectors, no duct tape, foil, etc. All Fruitcakes will be examined by the “Fruitcake Toss Tech Inspectors.”
• Fruitcakes must weigh a standard 1 lb to match our rental fruitcakes & they and be in a shape resembling rectangular.
IF YOU ARE HERE TO LAUNCH WITH YOUR MECHANICAL, ROBOTIC, 3-MAN SLING OR OTHER DEVICE, PLEASE SIGN IN AT THE ENTRY TABLE UPON YOUR ARRIVAL. We will have an “exhibition zone” for your launching devices & provide a time for your team to launch.
. For the Fruitcake Launch the device used to launch the fruitcake must not be powered by fuel (ie:no motors, engines, gasoline, diesel, etc.)
• The maximum length of the hurling device will be 10 feet.
• Safety is the most important issue. Any device deemed not to be safe by the organizing committee will not be allowed to exhibit.

BACK IN MANITOU: Cool Science Kid’s Mini Fruitcake Toss!
Schedule Tentative: Drop-in catapult building and decorating workshop in the MAC Maker Space (515 Manitou Ave) from 10 am to noon, drop-in competitions at Memorial Hall (606 Manitou Ave) from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Competition in distance and accuracy and winners announced at 12:30 pm.
