A sunset in the Rockies is like no other because the sun sets behind the mountains before it leaves the horizon leaving a warm glow to the beautiful landscape. If you are looking for a weekend get-a-way or a full-blown vacation to the Pikes Peak region, don’t forget to sit back, relax and catch the sun in all its glory. Here are a few spots you might want to remember once you decide to book your stay in Manitou Springs.
Garden of the Gods – This iconic park is the most visited in the region for good reason. The red rocks seem illuminated in the daylight but mix some sunset magic in and the rock formation looks like a scene from a movie. Hike up to a good sitting spot for better views or park your car at a lookout and take in the sheer beauty.
Paul Intemann Memorial Trail – This hike runs north and south of town with the trail head located off of Ruxton Avenue by the Manitou Springs mineral spring, Iron Spring. This is an easy hike which can be limited to 1 mile ending up on Pawnee Avenue near the town’s elementary school. The trail continues and can be combined for a longer hike if that’s how you roll.
Soak in the magic hour at Sunwater Spa – If a hike isn’t for you, try relaxing in the warm mineral springs water of Sunwater Spa. You can’t miss the cedar tubs facing west with America’s mountain practically sitting in the tub with you!
Bask in the warm glow of the sunset at the Manitou Springs Colorado Wine Festival. There’s nothing sweeter than ending your day of sampling some of the finest wines with the warm sun on your shoulder. Book your tickets today for five dollars off of your ticket price.
Skip the sunset for a sunrise on the Incline. This east facing trail will give you the prettiest pink and purple sunrise you’ve ever seen from 6,600 feet elevation the sky is the limit! You might even see some hot air balloons from Adventure’s Out West taking off in the plains of Colorado Springs.
Whatever you decide there isn’t really a bad view in town!
