Spring Break 5 Day Itenerary for the Pikes Peak Region

Traveling to the Pikes Peak area for spring break? Need some ideas on what to see and where to go? Here are our suggestions on places you can’t miss and things you have to see when you’re in Manitou Springs and the Pikes Peak Region.

Day 1: Day Trip to Manitou Springs

Manitou Springs was founded for its scenic setting and natural mineral springs. The historic downtown is lined with small shops, art galleries, restaurants, pubs and parks. Manitou Avenue runs through the center of town and connects the base of Pikes Peak with the Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, Old Colorado City, and Colorado Springs. Manitou is a great place to find lodging for the week as it provides tourists and visitors a central location to see all the attractions of the Pikes Peak area.

 

 

 

 

Day 2: Go to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

This distinctive mountainside zoo is home to over 750 animals. They are known for their interactive exhibits and breathtaking views of the surrounding Colorado Springs area. Guests can feed the giraffes, ride the antique carousel and feed free-flying birds at the Budgie Birdie Feeding exhibit. Be sure to bring comfortable shoes, water and sunscreen!

 

Day 3: Ride the Pikes Peak Cog Railway

All aboard the highest railway in North America! Climb to 14,115 feet and stand atop Pikes Peak America’s Mountain. You can look forward to once-in-a-lifetime panorama views and photo opts with your friends and family. Many guests see wildlife including marmots and bighorn sheep. At the top, be sure to check out the gift shop and buy their one-of-a-kind high altitude doughnuts.

Day 4: Visit the Garden of the Gods

You can do it all in the Garden of the Gods—hike, bike, horseback ride, or leisurely drive through the extraordinary rock formations. The Visitor and Nature Center offers educational exhibits on the history, geology and ecology of the park. After that, check out the Garden of the Gods Trading Post—one of Colorado’s oldest and largest markets.

 

Day 5: Take a Jeep Tour & go Ziplining

To finish your trip off with more excitement, we can’t say enough about one our local jeep outfitter, High Country Excursions.
